Yun-hua Chen

Yun-hua Chen holds a PhD in Film Studies from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, and is a film scholar, critic, and curator. She serves as an associate editor at Film International and contributes as a film critic to Cinephilia, Filmexplorer, and other publications. Her monograph Mosaic Space and Mosaic Auteurs was published by Neofelis Verlag in Berlin. Currently, she is a member of the selection committee for Berlinale Shorts and Berlinale Forum and sits on the board of the German Film Critics Association. Previously, she was the festival director of dokumentART in Neubrandenburg, Germany. She has also served as a jury member at film festivals, including Vila do Conde, Las Palmas, Oberhausen, EMAF, Dokufest, Beldocs, DOK Leipzig, among others.

Yun-hua Chen participated in “Greatest” Short Films of All Time 2025, a first-ever poll of its kind as a collective love letter to the art of short-form moving image. yanco and Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg, in collaboration with Talking Shorts, invited filmmakers, curators, distributors, critics, and scholars worldwide to nominate 10 audiovisual works under sixty minutes that they personally consider the “greatest” of all time.
