In I Don’t Feel at Home Anywhere Anymore, Li revisits Beijing after living abroad. During a short stay with her family, she realises how much she has changed—and how much her home has, too. The film reveals how migration can leave you caught between places, feeling perpetually neither here nor there.
In O Ma, Xue attempts a confession: she encodes her truth in an English letter, transcribing it phonetically in Chinese, and lets her grandmother read it out loud. The result is an emotional film made thanks to a hypnotic voice-over. Together, these films show how identity is woven from what we say, what we hide, and the spaces in between.
