3723 km As the Crow Flies

Oksana Luyssen, Ysé Auguste-Dormeuil, Belgium, 2024, 15’

Obtaining official documents is a symbol of coveted freedom and security for migrants. But how do you navigate the administrative labyrinth, where your application might be rejected by nothing more than a poorly cropped photo?

Set in Greece, this film explores the relationship between identity, race, and European bureaucracy. To meet the Greek government’s strict criteria, Nick, a photographer in Piraeus, finds himself forced to retouch the features of those who are refused entry. Two immigrants take us through the streets of Athens, where their place in society is being built step by step.
