Movie Original Title Director Country Year Duration
Le Ballon rouge The Red Balloon Albert Lamorisse Frankrijk 1956 34’

Set on the streets of Paris, a young boy finds a balloon. The soundtrack is excellent, following his mood and youthful energy as he walks and runs through Paris streets in the 1950’s. The short film won the Palm D’Or in 1956. A simple, sweet and wholesome story.

The Wrong Trousers Nick Park Verenigd Koninkrijk 1993 30’

Who doesn’t love Wallace and Gromit. The film won the 1993 Academy Award for best short. Claymation at it’s best.

Le Voyage dans la Lune Georges Méliès Frankrijk 1902 15’

Made in 1902, it was groundbreaking in special effects, and is considered the first science fiction film of all time.

The Snowman Diane Jackson Verenigd Koninkrijk 1982 26’

Hand drawn animation, great music, a timeless Christmas classic about a boy and a snowman who comes to life.

Powers of Ten Charles Eames , Ray Eames Verenigde Staten 1977 9’

Stunning, shows the wonders of the smallest worlds, and the largest.

Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story Todd Haynes Verenigde Staten 1987 43’

Bizarre, but so weird it’s compelling. Terrible film quality and huge copyright violation only to this underground cult classic.

One Week Buster Keaton , Edward F. Cline Verenigde Staten 1920 24’

Buster Keaton, the silent actor who did most of his own stunts. Classic silent film from 1920.

La Jetée Chris Marker Frankrijk 1962 28’

“This is the story of a man, marked by an image from his childhood.” Sci fi classic short film, told with photographs of post apocalyptic Paris.

Un Chien Andalou Luis Buñuel Frankrijk 1928 21’

Directed by Luis Bunuel, a classic on most people’s top 10 list of short films. Surrealism on film, as Salvador Dali painted on canvas.

Emilie Müller Yvon Marciano Frankrijk 1993 20’

What’s inside your handbag? Excellent black and white interview style, and Emilie explains her life by what’s inside her bag. Very thought-provoking.
