double bill #4

Cinema holds the power to bring to light what is obscured by darkness. It remembers yesterday’s pain and calls to action, hoping for a better tomorrow. Revealing histories under threat of erasure, Pauline Fonsny uses miniature models and fragmented testimonies to reconstruct the suffocating silence of detention in À l’usage des vivants. In Trajectory Drift, Iván Castiñeiras Gallego hides his characters inside a shipping container—their voices confined between metal walls as they dream of England.

Both filmmakers work with shadows, turning absence into a language of resistance. The invisible—whether a body denied asylum or a journey that must remain unseen—is at the core  of their films. Within these enclosed spaces, the camera is a tool for defiance: to remember, to imagine, and to hold space for those still fighting to be seen.
