Mackenzie Fincham

Mackenzie Fincham (she/they) is a Dutch-American filmmaker based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Their work is known for its raw, expressive, and colourful nature. After graduating with honours from St. Joost with the award-winning short Waan(beeld) (2021), they now work as an animation director, contributing their style to projects such as the short film Fly (2022). Mackenzie is currently working on their debut project Countergrowth, which is a short animated film that explores the wild grief of a teenage girl after losing her mom to suicide.

Mackenzie is also a programmer for Kaboom Animation Festival and joined the international selection committee of FILMFEST DRESDEN in 2022. They also moderate various panels, talks, and Q&As at festivals like the Netherlands Film Festival, Queer Film Festival Utrecht, and OOMPH! x Playgrounds.

Mackenzie Fincham participated in “Greatest” Short Films of All Time 2025, a first-ever poll of its kind as a collective love letter to the art of short-form moving image. yanco and Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg, in collaboration with Talking Shorts, invited filmmakers, curators, distributors, critics, and scholars worldwide to nominate 10 audiovisual works under sixty minutes that they personally consider the “greatest” of all time.
