What makes a self? Is it memory, environment, or connection? Juanita Onzaga’s The Jungle Knows You Better Than You Do and Lee Kyeong-won’s Nowhere Else explore this question, seeking the line between who we were and who we become.

Onzage follows two siblings who drift through Colombia after their father’s death. His absence becomes a compass guiding them into the jungle. The landscape isn’t a backdrop but alive and alert; its memory outweighs theirs, whispering toward surrender. In contrast, Kyeong-won portrays a woman who vanished years earlier and now reappears without memory. She visits her current and former husband, and also the place where she once lived—searching for a sensation she can’t name. Here, absence is a gap in time where past love can no longer anchor itself.

Each haunted by their own ghosts, these films turn their landscapes into thresholds, revealing worlds where memory, identity, and dreams intertwine.
