Carlos Segundo is a director, photographer, screenwriter, and editor, born in São Paulo (Brazil). He is mainly known for his feature debut Slits (2019), the short film Big Bang (2022), which won the Pardino d‘oro at the 75th Locarno Film Festival, and the Oscar-shortlisted Sideral (2021). He has directed over 20 films that have screened at more than 400 national and international festivals. Segundo is also a professor of the Audiovisual course at the Department of Social Communication at UFRN, a doctor in Cinema from Unicamp-SP, and a Master’s in Psychoanalysis from UFU-MG.

Carlos Segundo participated in “Greatest” Short Films of All Time 2025, a first-ever poll of its kind as a collective love letter to the art of short-form moving image. yanco and Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg, in collaboration with Talking Shorts, invited filmmakers, curators, distributors, critics, and scholars worldwide to nominate 10 audiovisual works under sixty minutes that they personally consider the “greatest” of all time.
