Alex Schuurbiers (1990, Netherlands) is a photographer and filmmaker who lives and works in Antwerp. Her practice focuses on the texture of analogue film as an active contribution to her stories: embedded in the past as a memory and tangible in the present as emotion. Alex’s work connects with the audience on a deep level and leaves the viewer with more questions than answers, opening the door to (self) exploration.
Alex studied Theater, Film, and Literature at the University of Antwerp. She is also a founding member of Ursula, a female collective of artists working with moving images. Her filmography includes Handwerk (2021), En Vagues (2022), Where I lay my head to rest (2023), and Song of Homecoming (2023).
